Painted Cave, one of the world’s longest sea caves, is on Santa Cruz Island, part of Channel Islands National Park off the California coast. Because of its location, this national park is quiet and uncrowded.

 

 

Sea stars (aka starfish) are increasingly less common in tidepools in California. These resemble autumn leaves in a stream.
