Dear readers, artists, friends, and donors,

As our seventh year comes to a close, we’re asking you today on Giving Tuesday to help us continue supporting our artists. We’ve learned a lot since opening in 2017 but one thing we knew already: we wanted to pay for the work we published. Thanks to our good fortune (still in business!) and your generosity (thank you!), we pay for all work.

We volunteer to do this because we love good writing and art, and we believe you do too. Through our work we have met and collaborated with hundreds of people — emerging artists new to the literary world, and more established and award-winning artists. They are young, old, and in-between, from all walks of life, from all over the world.

Most of the donations to our nonprofit journal come at the end of each calendar year—so we’re writing today to ask you to help us reach our $5,000 fundraising goal for 2023 by December 31. Thanks to donors’ support, we were able to raise our pay rates last year and to begin offering higher cash rewards for writing contests. (All donations are applied in full to pay honorariums to the artists whose work we publish.) If you’ve considered donating but haven’t yet this year, we’d love your support. And we thank everyone who has already donated.

Here’s some recent feedback we’ve received from writers:

Thank you for believing in my work…. I simply don’t have words enough to tell you how much it means to me as a young, emerging writer who is relatively recent on the literary scene. ~ Caitlin Cacciatore, poet

It’s wonderful to be part of your press, and you’ve gone out of your way to acknowledge writers. That means a lot. ~ Laton Carter, fiction writer

Thank you so much for this fantastic opportunity. Again, thank you for everything you do for emerging and established authors. ~ Hazel Hall, poet

We are dedicating this year’s fundraising drive to Linda Ragsdale, who sadly passed away in October. Linda was an author and illustrator, teacher, and international speaker whose work to promote peace worldwide was an inspiration. Linda was a big supporter of The Sunlight Press, and we are grateful for her generosity. Please find more about her at
