Dear readers,
Happy Labor Day! Tomorrow we reopen at The Sunlight Press for our 10th fall. We’re looking forward to a busy season of reading outstanding and new submissions, holding a writing contest, and raising funds for our journal.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept 8, we will reopen to fiction, essays, and book reviews, capping fiction and essays at 50 submissions each. Please note that we will remain closed to poetry and photography, due to the large numbers we’ve already received. Please always visit our Submit page before sending work our way. Also, if you submitted work during our summer reading period, we’ll be in touch soon on its status. Thanks for your patience.
Stay tuned as well for an announcement soon on a flash fiction writing contest to be held this fall. More details upcoming.
In other news, we were pleased to learn in July that a story we published in 2025 made the Wigleaf Top 50 very short fiction list and two other stories made the Wigleaf Longlist (200 eligible stories published online the previous year). In case you missed them, we’ve included the links below. Congratulations to writers Dawn Miller, Kathryn Kulpa, and Laura Nagle.
Mother Said I Was Air by Dawn Miller, (November 2025) – Top 50
Sam and Ruby on the Brink by Kathryn Kulpa, (November 2025) – Longlisted
Resistance by Laura Nagle (November 2025) – Longlisted
Every year, Wigleaf celebrates the art of writing flash fiction (stories under 1,000 words) by curating stories published in digital journals. This year, guest editor Andrew Porter chose the Top 50 from the Longlist. Our best wishes to all the writers whose work made the list, and our thanks to Wigleaf for choosing three of our stories published last year.
Looking to support the arts? Consider a donation to our nonprofit journal. We would be grateful for your help funding honorariums for the writers and photographers we publish. Please visit our Support page for details. Thank you!
Warmly,
Beth & Rudri
