Casey Lawrence kicks off our photography week with a snapshot in Sweden. She describes her image below.

This photo is one of a series titled, “Amanita in the Heather,” taken in October 2025 in Hisingsparken, Sweden, near Slättadamm. The subject is a young Amanita muscaria (also known as fly agaric), a mushroom found growing in a patch of common heather, Calluna vulgaris. It was shot on a Canon EOS 80D just as the sun begins setting when the world is bathed in the final rays of the dying sun.
