Wedding Gifts

flying home
I broke
a wedding gift
corners chipped
and worn
you superglue
the pieces
in secret
the cracks still show
the damage now dear

to you
damage is
a ruin never meant to be explored
let me pace your fractured
places and linger there
as I admire
the message etched
into the walls
you, my love, are
still standing

flying home to you
I broke damage is
a wedding gift a ruin never meant to be explored
corners chipped let me pace your fractured
and worn places and linger there
you superglue as I admire
the pieces the message etched
in secret into the walls
the cracks still show you, my love, are
the damage now dear still standing

Healing with The Golden Girls

Dorothy Blanche Sophia Rose

I buy all seven seasons on DVD
and play them on repeat, trying
to drown out depression’s
monologue within my brain.

Dorothy Blanche Sophia Rose

I know these episodes so well,
know how the joke will unfold
like petals, how the laughs will roll in
like warm waves lapping walls of ice.

Dorothy Blanche Sophia Rose

I can’t laugh yet,
but I am relearning joy,
taking comfort, for now,
in knowing what comes next.
