My Happy Place

by | Apr 1, 2026 | Poetry | 4 comments

by Nereida Mangosing-Koeppen

I love to sit under my beach umbrella
bask in the salty essence of the sea
succumb to the sun’s kiss on my bare skin.

Glinting in the sun, the waves
rush towards me, then suddenly withdraw.
The rhythmic rise and fall of the surf

drowns all other sounds of
discordant
dissonant
disparate
notes
into one sweet, soothing, tranquil tune

lulling my brain into
a breathlessly blissful space
a place of transcendent grace.

The poem is a simple idea of someone sitting on the beach under an umbrella, soaking in the sea water, listening to the waves and making her mind at peace.
But with the magic and power of words as expressed by the author, this short poem comes alive like a soothing balm for comfort.
