All That

by Charlene Langfur

Even now when I walk alone,
my little golden dog at my side,
the palm trees swaying in the wind,
the full moon rising in the night sky,
orange and yellow leaves in the air.
Winter is at the heart of things,
and what I know to be true is with me,
I know it will stay close now
after all these years, the fears, losses,
joy coming on like nothing else,
love, tiny wrens on the tiny heather,
what returns of hope in my dreams
of what worked in the past, when love
came to me so deeply and keenly I could
not tell the blue sky from the deep black night.
