Hello readers!
Hope you’re all enjoying summer and finding some down time. We’re here today with some brief updates.
Last week, we closed to submissions for the summer until after Labor Day. We use the latter part of summer to catch up on the work that’s come in during the first half of the year. Any writer out there still waiting to hear from us, will soon. As always, we appreciate your patience. Other notes on openings and closings, etc. —
- We will reopen to all work (except fiction) on Sept. 2, 2025. We will cap all subs at 50 and close to any genre that reaches 50.
- Please note: When we reopen Sept. 2, we will also begin accepting flash fiction submissions (stories under 1,000 words) to our Fall Flash Fiction Contest. We will cap contest subs at 75 entries or close on Oct. 3, whichever comes first. Again during this period, we will not accept regular fiction submissions, only contest entries.
- We will close to all submissions for the year on Nov. 3, 2025. We will continue publishing work through Weds. Dec, 17 when we close for the holidays.
- Always stay tuned to our Submit page as dates and open periods may change depending on the volume of work.
(Also, find more details about our upcoming fall flash fiction contest in our June Editors’ Note. We’ll share more info as the contest approaches.)
In other news, we were thrilled to learn earlier this month that a story we published in 2024 made the Wigleaf Top 50 very short fiction list and two other stories made the Wigleaf Longlist (200 eligible stories published online the previous year). In case you missed them, we’ve included the links below. Congratulations to writers Mandira Pattnaik, David Mohan, and Ilana Masad!
Passion and Wild Card by Mandira Pattnaik, (August 2024) – Top 50
Sea House by David Mohan, (April 2024) – Longlisted
Pinnochio Speaks for Himself by by Ilana Masad (March 2024) – Longlisted
Every year, Wigleaf celebrates the art of writing flash fiction (stories under 1,000 words) by curating a selection from digital journals. This year, guest judge Gerardo Sámano Córdova chose the Top 50 from the Longlist. Our best wishes to all the writers whose work made the list, and our thanks to Wigleaf for choosing three of our stories published last year.
Enjoy the remaining summer, and we’ll see you in the fall!
