Please welcome back the photography of Viviana De Cecco whose photograph last year won second place in our photography contest.

Sardinian Peacock (in Cagliari, the capital city of the Italian island of Sardinia)

While strolling through one of the largest parks in my city in June 2023, I was lucky enough to capture the moment when a peacock living there did a cartwheel to be admired by his peahen. Since it was not a very sunny day, this explosion of color immediately brightened the atmosphere.

Sardinian Passionflower (also in Cagliari)

In a garden near my house, someone seems to be fond of very peculiar flowers. I often stop to observe them from a distance, but sometimes I find the gate open and slip inside as if entering a secret garden. In this flower, I was struck by the intertwining of the stamens, which reminded me of a sea anemone.

Inspiring capture of a flower!!!! Thank you for helping us linger on amazing intricacy of pistils and stamens that seem ready to travel into space! Love the story of the peacock doing a cartwheel to impress the peahen. What a glorious panoply of feathers!!!!!! Thank you for providing a reminder of the extraordinary!

Thank you very much Kitty for your kind words! Indeed, the flower looks almost like an alien species. There are so many beautiful things in nature that deserve to be appreciated. The peacock really is a unique animal. I wonder if his lapwing was as impressed as we were! Aahahah… 😉
