Scenes from California and London in today’s photography

Alienated on the beach

This photo was taken on Christmas evening in Newport Beach, California. I love seeing footprints in sand because they oddly make me smile and wonder who they belonged to, what their story was, where they were headed to next, etc. These footprints caught my attention because they felt otherworldly, mysterious, and alienated, especially on a holiday ostensibly filled with cheer, joy, and togetherness.

Creepy Loneliness

I took this photo in central London. I was on a walking tour with lots of people, but that night I was feeling lost and alone. Seeing the combination of more darkness than light, rain on cobblestone, and it being a hidden away, this compact alley captured exactly how I felt that night: tired, shrinking, and lonely.

I love the contrast between darkness and light in both photos, but especially the one showing the footprints in the sand!
