Happy Holidays!

Dear readers,

As another year passes we’re reflecting on gratitude. Throughout the year, artists tell us how grateful they are to be paid. Because of our nonprofit status since 2018, we can accept (and we do, gladly!) tax-deductible donations. And because of donors’ generosity especially toward year’s end, we are thankful we can fund artist payments.

With that in mind, today we are offering our annual $500 matching gift to raise funds for paying our artists. We will match every gift dollar for dollar up to $500, between now and Dec. 31. If you considered donating but haven’t yet, why not do so now, and double your gift? We’d love your support.

In other news, we close for the holidays and publish our last post this Wednesday, Dec. 18. We are back to work on Jan. 6, 2025, when we reopen to submissions. We are continuing to read submissions from the fall and will be in touch with writers soon. As always, thank you for waiting.

At this time of year, we also thank our staff for reviewing, writing, and helping us out throughout the year. We also thank photographer Patricia Joynes for judging our spring 2024 photography contest. This work is simply impossible without the steady hand of our volunteers.

And in case you missed it, here’s a link to our December Editors’ Note with our six 2024 Pushcart nominations. Scroll down to find the notable poetry, fiction, and nonfiction we nominated this year.

Next year begins our ninth year at Sunlight. We hope you’ll keep coming back. And thanks for your generosity year after year.

Warm wishes for health and happiness in the new year,

Rudri Patel & Beth Burrell
