From photographer Lia Mageira: The Aliakmonas River traces its path across the Greek landscape for 300 kilometers. The river has a memory — its murky waters hold history stories. Neolithic settlements once thrived along the river bank. The echoes of oars from ships crossing during the Middle Ages remind us of the bravery navigating the currents. Raiders once charged through the rushing water on horseback, the battles now in the annals of history.
As the Aliakmonas River tumbles over rocks, splashing and foaming, it offers its gifts to future generations: life and culture.
