A week of poetry begins today with work by Mary E. Croy.
by Mary E. Croy
what if we moved only forward,
a step to the right
a skip to the left,
flamingo standing
looking down at a number
canvassing a blue sky
asking questions of the forest
and the chalk ladder
kept going, curving off to a side street
basking in the sun as it sloped upward
circling, circling the Earth
and we hopped along
Small town cul-du-sac
Sliding the windows down
at night
there’s a faint glow
towards Main Street
oasis of light
in a pollution free sky
revealing crepe paper darkness
and bright pinholes of distant suns
visible, bright, ready to taste
