Susan L. Lin talks about her images from Taiwan below.

All three photos were taken the same morning on Alishan (阿里山), a mountain range in Taiwan. (Fun fact: There is a famous Taiwanese folk song about the landmark that I listened to on repeat as a child because my dance class performed a traditional folk dance to it one year. As a result, I experienced an indescribable nostalgia when I finally got to visit the place for the first time on this trip.) I am not at all a morning person, but the area is well-known for its scenic sunrises, so I woke before dawn that day and headed to the observation point with my family. Unfortunately, a still photograph can’t quite capture that magical moment when the sun’s rays emerge from behind the peaks, slowly flooding the dark sky with bright light. On our walk back to the hotel afterward, I noticed this beautiful spider orb web (third photo) suspended from a potted plant on the porch, as well as the gorgeous green grasshopper camouflaged in the leaves (just below).
