Canadian Geese and Goslings, Cataraqui River, Kingston, Ontario

Geese and goslings are a familiar sight in the spring. Although couples typically produce no more than eight or nine eggs at a time, these geese will sometimes arrange for two adults to look after “gang broods” of anywhere from 20-100 goslings while the other adults forage – an efficient way to keep babies safe and ensure the parents get food.

Spiderweb on Burdock, Cataraqui River, Kingston, Ontario

Sunrise is a beautiful time on the river, especially in late fall when spiders are still active, plants are frosty, and the sun highlights the webs and seed pods.

Double Rainbow, Rock Dunder, Ontario

With no mountains in this area, Rock Dunder is the highest point around at 275 feet above the water, and offers great views of the lakes and woods any time of year. On one fall hike, it started to rain but by the time we got to the top it stopped, and we were treated to a double rainbow.
