To grow up
in an A-frame
is a primary ungrounding lesson

sharp for shedding
what collects into heaps
outside of the structure’s edges

hillside peekaboo views
supported on long stilts
a shaky foundation for earthquakes

redwood, pecky cedar
lulled to fitful sleep
by wood-boring bee concerts

pupate, grow wings
launch, fly away past
the scent of rattlesnake grass

on hot winds
portents of the rage
that burns down the remains.
