Dear readers and friends,

As we close the door on 2023 and anticipate our eighth year opening, we thank everyone for joining us on our literary journey. We’re grateful for the joy (and the work too) of bringing new art into the world. On that note, we announce six nominations for the Pushcart Prize, which are due each year by early December. We’re thrilled today to share our nominations of notable work in three categories — fiction, essay, and poetry. Congratulations to all!

As is our tradition in December, today we offer a $500 matching gift to raise money to continue paying our artists. We’ve been committed to financially supporting artists since launching and will match every gift dollar for dollar up to $500, between now and Dec. 31. If you considered donating but haven’t yet, this is the perfect time to double your gift. We’d love your support.

We close for the holidays and publish our last post this Friday, Dec. 15. We are back to work publishing on Jan. 8, but will not reopen to submissions until Monday, Jan. 15. Stay tuned for any updates on our website Submit page. We continue to read submissions that came in this fall and will be in touch with writers soon. As always, thanks for your patience as we review work.

And last but never least, we thank our staff for editing, reviewing, writing, and helping us out in myriad and welcome ways. We also thank writer Sabrina Hicks for judging our flash fiction writing contest earlier this year. She was awesome. We couldn’t do this work without the collaboration of our volunteers.

Best wishes to all now and in the coming year!

Warmly,

Beth Burrell & Rudri Patel
