A large doe bounded into view
at the entrance to the woods.
Fast I put on my brakes.
Her pause was a hand
that nudged me
from where I sat in the muddled
busyness of my life.
Time was no measure between us
before she leapt into leaves’ camouflage
and I lost her.
Though now I know her
to be somewhere,
gifting her stillness to the air.
