Today we feature two photographs described below.

 

 

The photo above is of turkey tail mushrooms growing on a mossy log. It was taken on a misty, wintery walk around Lake Chickamauga in southeastern Tennessee.

 

 

This second image is a dark morph of an Eastern swallowtail butterfly in a field of tickseed flowers. It was taken in later summer at Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature Center in Chattanooga.. Every September the lower meadows at Reflection Riding burst into bloom — tickseed and ironweed in every direction. You can stand in the field and hear nothing but the buzzing of all the happy pollinators having a feast.
