We begin August with the photography of Charles Swanson.

“Hungarian Parliament Across The Danube” was taken at dusk from Castle Hill. I love Budapest. Hungarians say there are two kinds of people in the world: those who live in Buda and the rest of the world who wish they did.

“Spanish Shadows” was taken in the Italian village, Livorno. I caught the sun at just the right declination from the horizon on a sunny day. I love everything about this shot: the shadows, the coloration, and the stonework on the building.

Charles Swanson is a retired college professor and middle school science teacher. He lives in Winston Salem, N.C. with his wife and their three cats, Big Mama, Lucy, and Squeaky. Together they’ve traveled worldwide to every continent but Antarctica. Charles’ hobbies are photography, writing, and reading, and he’s won juried awards at both the local and state level.

(By the way, Livorno probably shouldn’t be presented as a ‘small Italian village’; it is actually a city of about 160,000 people and one of Italy’s largest ports.)
