The summer days are getting longer, and the pace is slowing. As the world opens up again, we are feeling grateful to venture out and breathe more easily. At The Sunlight Press, we are working our way through regular submissions, as well as more than 300 submissions we received to our spring flash contest. We thank all the writers who submitted work.
Contest submissions closed on May 15. We will read work throughout the summer, and announce our longlisted and shortlisted submissions in August, and announce the winner in early September. The winning writer will receive a $500 cash prize as well as our regular payment for published work.
Our judge is writer Dan Crawley. We’re thrilled to report that his flash fiction, “A Shiny Little Blue World,” published by The Sunlight Press in 2020, was long listed as part of the annual Wigleaf’s “Top 50 (Very) Short Fictions of the Year.” Alyssa Jordan and her piece, “Blood Roots,” also made the list. Congratulations to Dan, Alyssa, and to all the writers whose work was honored!
Please note: We are closed to poetry and fiction submissions in June, and to ALL submissions in July, while we catch up on reading. Find more details on our website Submit page. We will reopen to submissions in all genres on August 1. (If you submitted work recently and you haven’t heard from us, hang in there. You’ll hear from us soon.)
If you are interested in being a volunteer reader at our journal, please email us at thesunlightpress@gmail.com. We depend on our staff to help us review work throughout the year, and especially during contests. Their eyes and insights are awesome.
As always, we thank visitors to our site and artists who send us work. We are also grateful for financial support for our nonprofit journal; all donations are used solely to pay artists whose work we publish. Read more on our Support page.
Have a restful and happy summer,
