Today we close out photography week with the work of Jim Ross who describes his photo below.
The yellow and black swallowtails come out in numbers by August but it’s rare to catch two face to face. Last summer, their numbers were sharply down and I’m hoping their numbers rebound this summer. The park where I walk daily and watch for their return is an official monarch way station and features milkweed and other bushes attractive to the dwindling monarch population.
Jim Ross jumped into creative pursuits in 2015 after a rewarding career in public health research. With a graduate degree from Howard University, in eight years he’s published nonfiction, fiction, poetry, photography, hybrid, interviews, and plays in 200 journals on five continents. Photo publications include Alchemy Spoon, Barnstorm, Burningword, Camas, Phoebe, Stonecoast, and The Sunlight Press. Recently nominated for Best of the Net in nonfiction and art, he also wrote/acted in a one-act play and appeared in a documentary limited series broadcast internationally. Jim’s family splits time between city and mountains.
