Welcome back the work of John Gawthrop who ushers in our Photography Week today. He describes his photos below.

Calla Lilies

This photo—as many are—is about light and color. With the sun splashing over our living room floor, these calla lilies just had to jump down from the tabletop, and join in. There they basked in the afternoon warmth and inspired me to do likewise.

English Bay

This photo taken from a high-rise apartment overlooking English Bay in Vancouver, BC, Canada, captures spectators in boats gathered in advance of the BC Day Holiday fireworks display, due after sundown. The fireworks barge is visible to their right. Arguably, from our height we had an even better view than they did.

These photographs compliment the stunning beauty of the natural world, and personify them in ways that make the lilies, the bay seem as if they are making gifts of themselves to us. Lovely…
