Focal Point
It’s the lesson
you aren’t looking for
that hits you most—
the camera’s display screen
telling me, losing
focus, to
move closer. Move
closer.

After We Put Her Down
I found the rest
of her hair
curled
in the vacuum;
pulled it out in fists;
swirled
it out in the bushes
there
for the thrushes
to build a nest.
New life—I assume—
can come from this.
