This year comes to a close. We recognize there was very little that was normal about 2020, but hope our literary journal provided something of a refuge, where you could breathe and read.
The Sunlight Press will begin its fifth year in January and we have much to be grateful for as 2020 ends.
This year we completed our second full year as a nonprofit literary journal and with the help of generous donors, have raised $1,735 in donations. All donations will fund 2021 honorariums for writers and artists published on our site. Thanks to all who have supported The Sunlight Press. We are deeply grateful for your contribution especially this year.
To continue a tradition started last year, we are stepping forward again with a $500 matching gift to continue valuing artists and writers’ work. We’ve been committed to paying artists since launching in 2017, and will match every gift dollar for dollar up to $500, between now and December 31. If you considered donating but haven’t yet, we’d love your support.
Earlier this year we nominated work for Best of the Net awards and today are thrilled to announce our nominations for Pushcart Prizes:
Bypasses – Essay by Gabriela Frank
Surrogate Love – Fiction by Damhnait Monaghan
The Stupid Smart Girl – Fiction by Monica Wong
Installation – Poetry by C.C. Russell
Because – Poetry by Tara Campbell
Planetary Differentiation – Poetry by Megan E. Freeman
We are also thrilled to announce our nominations for Best Small Fictions:
A Shiny Little Blue World by Dan Crawley
Surrogate Love by Damhnait Monaghan
A crack in the blinkers by Alison Gibson
A Parable of Grief by Jessica Federle
Blood Roots by Alyssa Jordan
Finally, we would like to thank our volunteer staff for their continued work and support. This journal would not be possible without them: Clive Collins, our Poetry Editor; four volunteer readers, Kate Jones, Susan Pohlman, Elizabeth Spencer, and Amanda Steel; Eric Sorensen, artist and photographer; Steve Johnson, artist. Please note that we are closed to all submissions from December 21, 2020 to January 4, 2021.
We wish all of our readers a peaceful holiday season. Thank you for your support of The Sunlight Press and cheers to a happy and healthy new year. We will return on Monday, January 4. See you in 2021.
Stay well and safe, and Happy Holidays to all,
