Dear Readers,
We last wrote on March 2, yet here in May, it feels very long ago. It is an unsettling time and we thank you for your steady readership and support. If you’re like us, you are grateful for art now — be it words, visual art, music, or (Zoom) performances. We’re glad you include The Sunlight Press in your day, now more than ever.
We also thank writers for submitting over 200 pieces of flash fiction to our contest that closed April 17. The volume of work is more than expected and we will give careful consideration to all. Our goal is to announce a winner in late June. The writer will receive $125 plus our regular payment for accepted pieces. Cathy Ulrich, author of Ghosts of You, will guest judge our submissions.
In our March note, we noted being particularly interested in more submissions of nonfiction, book reviews, and Artist on Craft pieces. Writers responded and we thank you. We will close to all submissions during the month of July while we catch up on reviewing work. We will reopen on August 1. When you submit work at any time, please tell us how you learned of The Sunlight Press. We receive submissions from across the world and from people doing all kinds of work in addition to their art. It’s always a pleasure to meet you.
If you’re interested in helping at The Sunlight Press, we are seeking more volunteer readers and a summer intern. Contact us at thesunlightpress@gmail.com about either position. In short, volunteer readers are needed to evaluate fiction and nonfiction submissions, and an intern to help manage submissions, email writers, and post on social media.
Next month, we’ll be back to announce our Flash Fiction contest winner. Stay tuned.
Until then, be well and stay safe wherever you may be,
Rudri Bhatt Patel and Beth Burrell
